Zhang Kechun’s Yellow River

The online version of the photographic journal Jia Zazhi /假杂志, self-published by Yuan Di, puts the Yellow River in the spotlight through the haunting photographs of Zhang Kechun.

Student of the “Sichuan School” of photography (Luo Dan, etc.), Zhang Kechun for this serial borrowed the title of a famous poem in the Book of Odes (“北流活活”), and went on the trail of the Yellow River to explore a quiet and sometimes transformed nature, where human impact on landscapes coexist with a strangely nostalgic and static image of the great river, known as the great nourishing river of the northern regions.
