Shanghai Graffiti in Memory of Buildings marked for Demolition

The French street artist Julien Malland has created a graffiti series on the walls of a demolition site on Kangding Road in Shanghai. This type of urban wall art, which can be appreciated in other cities around the world, can be seen as honouring Shanghai’s demolished heritage.

These drawings catch the attention of many city dwellers, with one admiring netizen posting several pictures of the pieces on the website Douban (豆瓣) before the company in charge of the remaining buildings orders the destruction of these last walls.
