Modu Magazine: A Tale of Urban China

Digital archives of China’s cultural heritage

The website Digital Maps of Beijing and its map of Beijing during the Qianlong period superimposed on a layout of the current Beijing Google maps contains a wide range of photographic and cartographic resources about the city of Beijing. Digital Maps of Beijing is part of a wider project of Japanese origin, Digital Silk Road, a project compiling digitized archives on Chinese cultural heritage.

The website hosts a large digital background edited by a several international organizations and consisting of books and old photographs. The project would like to offer to the public rare and precious resources to which access is often restricted by libraries; such as, for example, good quality scans of old books from the Toyo Bunko Library, such as this photograhs book of Beijing in 1906.
