Plans to develop Chaotianmen Harbor in Chongqing

A peninsula called “the Manhattan of Asia” lies at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. In Chongqing, the city pursues its urban ascent at great speed. After the development of the new center on the north bank of Jialing River, it is now the time to rethink the old harbor area (Chaotianmen), the historical landmark of the city.

The project of architect Moshe Safdie, some sort of technological fantasy and witness of the urban ambition of the distant metropolis of Western China, nevertheless shows the potential future of this unique site. The steep harbor, with its bridges and stairs, is unified under this large open space, providing stunning views towards the shoreline.
