A student in architecture completes a mosque in Shaanxi Province

ArchDaily China relates the story of Maximai, a student in architecture at the Nationalities Central University, who already completed two notorious architectural projects. The first project is the conception and realization of his parents’ house, the second is a mosque for the Muslim community of his hometown, in Shaanxi province.

To fulfill this second project, Maximai has been inspired by a verse of the Qur’an related to light, which he transposed into a white, lightened and opened building, hence the mosque’s name, “The Light of Allah”. Apart from its size of 420m² and its budget limited to RMB 350,000, this building’s particularity lies in the circular shape of its main room, located at the centre of an orthogonal court. In addition, the believers access the prayer room by a footbridge entering the roof. This ensemble is integrated in a traditional and modern neighbourhood.
