Dafen village is well-known for the mass production of oil painting replicas. In order to develop the neighbourhood and its tourism, the local government decided to build a museum devoted to this art form. In this particular environment, Urbanus designed an art centre which contains one floor for exhibitions, one floor for local artists and the top floor for workshops. In addition to that, the building was not only designed as a cultural facility but also as a link to enhance social interaction by providing public access from the surrounding areas through pedestrian bridges. As a final touch, the facades of the building have the same pattern as the village grid and local artists were invited to paint on it.
