As a response to Ningbo’s exponential growth, the local authorities have tried to draw citizens’ interest into the development of their city and strengthen the bond between government and community. The new Urban Planning Exhibition Centre is designed as a public place where city planning practices and urban development issues are exposed. The unconventional architecture itself, with its unclear limits, aims at inviting all kinds of people to enter the building and to keep informed about the processes taking place in their city. The former Urban Planning Museum of Ningbo, still opened to the public, is located on the Old Bund (laowaitan); it was designed by Chinese architect Ma Qingyun.
