Modu Magazine: A Tale of Urban China

A Digital Library in Beijing’s Subway

The passengers of line 4 of Beijing’s subway now have free access to books from an electronic library made available thanks to a partnership between Beijing MTR Corporation and the National Library of China. Beijing MTR Corporation is affiliated to the Hong Kong company of the same name and was created to manage line 4, now the first subway line administrated by a Hong Kong firm in continental China.

The users, by scanning a QR-code on their smart phones, can have free access to the online resources of the national library or participate in some short interactive activities and exhibitions during their commute. The first activity launched takes Chinese writing as its theme, detailing various ethnic styles and their historic evolution.
