Portfolio: Shanghai, Dust Never Sleeps
With Dust Never Sleeps, Italian photographer Alessandro Zanoni illustrates his vision of China massive city growth. These pictures, taken while wandering in Shanghai’s Zhabei and Moganshan areas, strike us with their blinding paleness and the rareness of human figures.
He thus depicts the city as a cold and unwelcoming, choosing a spatial angle rather than a social one. The recurrence of constructions and ruins, dust and trash show that, to the artist, such fast urban expansion is a destruction, which only spawns emptiness and bewilderment.
