Prominent firms collaborate on star-shaped terminal for New Beijing airport
In September 2014, it was officially announced that the design proposal of ADP Ingénierie (ADPI), an offshoot of Aéroports de Paris associated with the architecture agency Zaha Hadid (and its consortium including Buro Happold, Mott Macdonald and EC Harris), had won the July 2011 international competition organized by Beijing New Airport Headquarters to design terminal 1 of Beijing’s new international airport in Daxing.
Plans for the star-shaped terminal have recently been revealed in a press release. With a capacity of 100 million passengers a year, the terminal will reduce the time required for passengers to walk to boarding gates, and will also become a multimodal platform directly linked to local and national railways networks, including the gaotie (high-speed train). The new terminal aims to become a major transportation hub in Beijing, as well as a key driver of the economic development of the region.
