Qinhuai River redevelopment process begins in Yangzhou

The mayor of Yangzhou, a city in Jiangsu province located at the junction between the Grand Canal and the Yangtze River, invited a Texan company of architecture and urban planning, Overland Partners, to redevelop the Minor Qinhuai River. The river has been neglected for years and cut off from the city itself.

The challenge is therefore to combine tradition and modernity into the redevelopment process to give once again the river an identity, meaning and a function. The goal is not only to recreate a touristic place rich in history but also to reinsert the river into the city as a symbolic place in the daily lives of the inhabitants.
