French bridge gets second life in Shunde
The Gustave Eiffel Bridge was demolished in 2012, after 150 years of existence in the Southern French city of Bayonne, and will be integrated into the new Sino-French art zone of Shunde, in the Chinese province of Guangdong. Named P’Art and inaugurated as part of the 50th anniversary of Sino-French diplomatic relations, this space is meant to foster a long-term link between both cultures, by providing a cooperation platform for 50 contemporary artists.
The remains of the Gustave Eiffel Bridge, which artists will be free to exploit according to their own inspiration, will therefore serve as the basis for an exchange of ideas and culture between China and the francophone world.
