Wang Shu’s inaugural lecture at Ecole de Chaillot
On January 31 last year, Wang Shu, winner of the Pritzker Prize, was the first foreign architect to give the Ecole de Chaillot’s inaugural lecture. Architect and Director of the School of Architecture at the China Academy of Arts, he agreed to share his thoughts on the relationship between architectural design, history and heritage.
Wang Shu confirms his disinterest for large government projects which he predicts will not last. His stance – seeking to revive the link between communities and modern architecture – goes against the trend of urban development observed over the last thirty years in China.
